​Explosives experts of Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise discussed with colleagues issues of improving the methods for conducting explosive examinations, developing reference books and research methods

Vitalii Draliuk, chief forensic expert of the Explosion Engineering Research Department of Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine took part in a scientific and practical seminar on the topic: “Improving the techniques for conducting explosive examinations, developing reference books and research methods”.

The event was also attended by representatives of the departments of the Scientific Research Forensic Centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Department of Explosive Services of the National Police of Ukraine, the National Academy of Internal Affairs and the Expert Services of the Security Service of Ukraine.

The organizers determined the purpose of the meeting:

1. Updating of issues in explosive examination, which are not sufficiently covered in the reference and methodological literature and for which there is a need for scientific development;

2. Consideration of the methodological and informational materials currently being developed by the staff of the territorial research centers;

3. Exchange of experience and discussion of practical situations that arise during the forensic explosive examination.

During the thematic speeches, experts discussed the tasks, features and procedures for the appointment of explosive examination, the need for standardization and improvement of its methodology. It was about the study of ammunition and their parts, the general forensic qualification of ammunition and means of detonation, as well as methods for a comprehensive study of explosive devices, explosives and traces of an explosion.

Particular attention was paid to the need for clear timelines for the formation of conclusions on the objects of study, which have some structural or external signs of explosive devices of industrial manufacture, but they do not belong to them, attention is focused on the features of the criminalistic investigation of RPG-18, RPG-22, RPG- anti-tank grenades 26 and traces of their explosion, etc.

The participants were particularly interested in the presentation of the use of 3D scanning technology within the framework of conducting explosive research and scenes investigation of an accident after an explosion.
