Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the British investigative organization “Center for the Study of Armed Conflict” Conflict Armament Research (CAR)

On May 2, 2023, representatives of the British research organization “Center for the Study of Armed Conflict” Damien Spleeters, Deputy Director for Operations, and Alan Barlow, Head of CAR Technical Support Department, visited the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise and held an official meeting with  Oleksandr Ruvin, Director of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise and  Nataliia Nestor, Deputy Director of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise.

During the visit, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise and the Conflict Armament Research (CAR) research organization “Center for the Study of Armed Conflicts”.

The main goal of the cooperation is the mutual enrichment of data and information, which will help increase the level of knowledge about the movement of weapons and ammunition in Ukraine and in the world, will allow experts to have greater opportunities for identifying weapons, which is especially important today during the Russian aggression on the territory of Ukraine.

CAR was founded in 2011, the main purpose of which is to collect evidence of arms supplies during armed conflicts in order to inform and support effective arms management and control.

The organization specializes in working with governments of different countries where there are military conflicts to find out how weapons enter combat zones. CAR maintains the global iTrace weapons reporting system, which is funded by the EU and the German government.

The meeting was also attended by Tymur Tsapko, Head of the Traceology and Ballistic Research Department of the Laboratory of Forensic Research of Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise, Ihor Samoilenko, Chief Forensic Expert of the Traceology and Ballistic Research Department of the Laboratory of Forensic Research of Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise.

Oleksandr Ruvin, Director of Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise, acquainted CAR representatives with the work of individual departments of the laboratory of forensic types of research, which is of interest to representatives of the research organization.
