KFI participated in the international conference «Modern Directions, Means and Methods of Combating Crime under Martial Law»

On October 20, 2023, the international conference “Modern Directions, Means and Methods of Combating Crime under Martial Law” was held, dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding criminalist, Doctor of Law, Professor Viktor Kolmakov. The conference was organized by the Department of Criminalistics, Detective and Operational Investigative Activities of the National University “Odesa Law Academy”; the De mendacio veritas Research Group of the International Congress of Criminologists; the Odesa Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.

During the event, the participants demonstrated the importance of V.P. Kolmakov’s scientific achievements and highlighted current issues of fighting crime. The participants also discussed topical issues related to forensic techniques and innovative technologies, tactics and its means, the direction of formation and implementation of forensic techniques, the use of special knowledge and expert support of criminal proceedings.

Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise presented reports on the following topics:

  • “The use of innovative information technologies for the preliminary examination of material evidence during the examination of the scene”, Viktor Koloniuk, Scientific Secretary of the Institute; Yurii Maznychenko, Leading Researcher of the Scientific and Regulatory and Methodological Activities Department of the Laboratory of Organization of Scientific, Methodological Activities, Regulatory Support, International Cooperation and Expert Training;
  • “The relevance of the latest publications of V.P. Kolmakov in the collection “Criminalistics and Forensics””, Oleh Baulin, Head of the Department of Scientific and Regulatory Activities of the Laboratory of Organization of Scientific, Methodological Activities, Regulatory Support, International Cooperation and Expert Training.

It is worth reminding that the first collection “Criminalistics and Forensics” was prepared for publication by the scientists of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise in 1964 under the editorship of Professor V.P. Kolmakov, Doctor of Law, and was published in 1965. The collection became the first interdepartmental annual scientific and methodological publication in the field of criminalistics and forensic science in the Ukrainian SSR.
