June 28 is a significant date for our state, because 25 years ago, on the night of June 27-28, 1996, the Basic Law of Ukraine was adopted.
Thanks to 315 votes in its favor, Ukraine finally received a Constitution that defined the values, rights and freedoms guaranteed by the state.
The Constitution is a symbol of the independence and unity of our country. It is the Basic Law that determines the territorial structure, social relations, organization, and work of public authorities.
The current Constitution of Ukraine is 25 years old, but it should be remembered that the Ukrainian constitutional process has a long history and dates back to the times of Kyivan Rus.
From the ancient Russkaya Pravda to Bohdan Khmelnytskyi’s March Articles, from the Covenants and Constitutions of the Rights and Freedoms of the Zaporizhzhia Army to the Universals of the Ukrainian Central Council, each of these documents laid the foundations for the modern Constitution of Ukraine.
Remembering the glorious and tragic pages of our history, the difficult path that our country has taken to gain independence, we should honor the generations of our ancestors who put their wisdom, their strength, and their love of freedom in every document that preceded the modern Constitution.
In addition, it is extremely important that the implementation of each article of the Basic Law is the norm of life of every citizen, regardless of profession and position.
On this significant day, we wish peace in our country, energy, and inspiration to work on building a successful state and a strong Ukrainian society!
