On the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the birth of the prominent Ukrainian scientist Mykhailo Sehai, on the street Instytutska, 27/6, in the Pechersk District was held the opening ceremony of the memorial plaque on the facade of the dwelling house where the scientist lived. Colleagues from Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise and the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, representatives of the authorities, relatives and friends of the scientist took part in this event.
Mykhailo Sehai is an outstanding forensic scientist, Doctor of Law, Professor, Academician of the Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, a man who for a long time was at the Head of science in KFI. As the colleagues of an outstanding scientist remembered, the beginning of his professional activity was primarily connected with Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise, in which he headed the direction of science for more than 45 years.
“Mykhailo Sehai was a criminalist of great servicer, his work so far no one has surpassed. This year, thanks to the efforts of the specialists of KFI it was possible to find about 200 works of authorship by Mykhailo Ya. Sehai about which before that it was not known. We are obliged to preserve and transfer the descendants of his works,” noted Oleksandr Ruvin, Director of KFI.
Oleksandr Spasybko, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, in a welcoming speech noted that a significant part of the development of justice is concentrated in the Ukrainian forensic expertise. Representatives of the leadership of the Kyiv City State Administration, in turn, are happy to help raise the memory of outstanding figures of criminalistics, one of which was Mykhailo Ya. Sehai.
At the solemn event Serhii Martynchuk, Head of the Pechersk District State Administration addressed the scientific community with a welcome message:
“The condition for the sustainable development of society is the work of a scientific society that generates theoretical and practical developments in the methods of important research. In addition to the considerable scientific heritage in the direction of criminalistics Mykhailo Ya. Sehai, as a teacher of law sciences, supported the quality of Ukrainian education at the highest level, his students reached considerable heights successfully defending candidate and doctoral works,” noted Serhii Martynchuk in his speech.
Recognition of the Ukrainian scientist reaches the world’s borders; this is evidenced by the recognition of the international community and the awarding of Mykhailo Ya. Sehai with the UN Medal “For Outstanding Achievements in the Development of Forensic Science and Forensic Expertise”.
During the event colleagues from the Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine told what they remember about an outstanding scientist.
“He was a man who combined not only the professional qualities of a scientist, a lawyer, a criminalist, but also good human qualities. Those who had the opportunity to communicate with him, remember him as a tolerant, kind and sincere leader,” – said Nataliia Kuznietsova, vice-president of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine.
“Almost immediately after receiving the school-leaving certificate Mykhailo Ya. Sehai went to the front. He came to Berlin. All this was thanks to his intellect, knowledge. This saved the lives of many people. It’s been 5 years since he died. We are grateful to everyone who made efforts to have a plaque on the house where he lived” , said Volodymyr Tykhyi, advisor to the Presidium of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine.
Particularly pleasant and heartfelt were the memories of his son, Oleksandr Sehai who also attended the event:
“Thanks to my mother Flora Sehai in this house was warm and cozy, which helped the father and his students grow not only good professionals, but also good people. People came to this house. Someone from the great said: We are worth something, because we stand on the shoulders of large giants. My father Mykhailo Sehai was one of such giants. Memory of the past is our bridge to the future”, said Oleksandr Sehai.
