On September 29, 2023, Tymur Tsapko (Head of the Department of Trace, Ballistic, Explosive and Weapons Research) and Oleksandr Dolozhevskyi (Chief Forensic Expert of the Military Research Laboratory) took part in the Inaugural Meeting of the professional network participants, which was held within the framework of the project “Supporting Ukraine in Overcoming the Risks of Small Arms and Light Weapons Proliferation Arising from the Russian-Ukrainian War”, which took place in Truskavets.
The aim of the project is to prevent and reduce security threats to the population that may arise from illegal arms trafficking. The project was implemented jointly by the Center for Security Studies “SENSS” (Ukraine) and Small Arms Survey (Geneva Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Switzerland).
A presentation was made on the topic: “Basic approaches and definitions of small arms and light weapons (SALW)”.
A discussion was held “on the assessment of current and future threats related to the proliferation of illicit small arms and light weapons, both within Ukraine and internationally“, during which the experience of the professional network members was shared, opportunities for cooperation and a plan of joint actions were outlined.
