From October 17 to 20, 2023, an international training course “Crime Scene Investigation” was held in Lisbon (Portugal), organized by CEPOL (European Union Agency for the Training of Law Enforcement Officers) and ENFSI (European Network of Forensic Science Institutions) with the support of the Institute of Criminal Police and Criminal Sciences of Portugal. Mykhailo Poliennikov, a leading forensic expert of the Financial and Credit Operations and Economic Activity of Enterprises Research Department of the Economic Research Laboratory, was trained by KFI.
The course combined practical classes, during which various variations of crime scene examination were modeled, and theoretical classes, with reports by European representatives of forensic science on topical issues: police at the crime scene; crime working group; crime scene investigation, basic principles of investigation of various traces at the crime scene; documentation (fixation) and analysis of the crime scene; use of tests (reagents) to identify various types of traces at the crime scene; crime scene examination protocols; new biological and chemical types of evidence, peculiarities of work at the crime scene; quality requirements for CSI work, basic principles of accreditation; possibilities of new methods of communication and presentation of cases, virtual and augmented reality, etc.
As a result of the training, the expert of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise gained theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of organization of expert work, namely the standards of expert work of ENFSI and CSI (including requirements for appropriate accreditation), as well as information on new achievements in the field of expertise (methodological approaches, application of the latest technology in conducting examinations).
The exchange of experience with foreign colleagues makes it possible to bring the best achievements of the field of forensic science into the practice of the work of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise.
