The expert of KFI joined the round table on Ukrainian ceramics

On December 11, 2023, Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University held a roundtable discussion on the topic “Metaverse of Ukrainian Ceramics: Issues of Preservation, Reconstruction, Digitization, and Exhibition in the Context of Information Challenges.” The partners of the program were the Research Institute of Ukrainian Studies of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Central State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art of Ukraine, Kosiv Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts of LNAM, Vinnytsia Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi State Pedagogical University, and National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”.

Alina Dyachenko, forensic expert of the Art History Research Department of the Laboratory of Engineering, Transport, Commodity and Special Types of Research of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise, made a presentation “Algorithms for the Study of Ceramic Objects”, in which she explained how to determine the condition of an object at the time of receipt for examination, how to conduct a visual examination (description of the object), how to determine the degree of contamination and the state of preservation of ceramics.

The roundtable included three areas of work:

  • – marketing, digitalization and reconstruction, visualization and cataloging of lost ceramics of famous art centers;
  • – attribution, examination, and new conditions for exhibiting porcelain, faience, and majolica, taking into account information challenges;
  • – authentic Ukrainian pottery: traditions and innovations in technology and design.
