The European Network of Forensic Institutes (ENFSI) has expelled two Russian institutes, namely the Russian Federal Center of Forensic Science of the Ministry of Justice (Moscow) and the North-Western Forensic Science Center (St. Petersburg).
The issue of excluding the above institutions was initiated by Nataliia Nestor, Deputy Director of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise. In response to Nataliia Nestor’s request, the ENFSI Board suspended the membership of Russian institutions and subsequently launched a procedure for final expulsion from the organization.
According to the ENFSI Constitution, the exclusion of member institutions must be voted on by all ENFSI members. In response to Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine, on March 17, 2022, the ENFSI Board decided to launch an electronic voting process to expel Russian institutions from St. Petersburg and Moscow.
On April 20, 2022, the ENFSI Secretariat announced the results of the vote on the issue, according to which the majority decided to expel two members of the institutions of the Russian Federation. A total of 64 institutes took part in the voting.
