Experts of the questioned document examination department of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise with a working visit within the framework of advanced training visited the Banknote Paper Factory of the National Bank of Ukraine in the city of Malyn.
“Experts of Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine and other specialists are actively involved in research and the development of methods for researching banknotes, in this connection, the issue of understanding and analyzing the process of making paper with protective elements has become topical”, saidVictoriia Kulykovska.
The banknote paper factory of the National Bank of Ukraine is the only enterprise that produces banknote and high-quality security paper in Ukraine.
During the historical information on the work of the enterprise, the experts learned that the first batch of paper – a banknote for the hryvnia – was delivered in early 1997.
“Within a few years, the assets of the factory include thousands of tons of highly-protected paper of thirty types, different in fiber composition and complexity of security elements. The most popular of them are: banknote for all denominations of the national currency, paper for passports, checks, sick-lists, excise stamps and the whole range of forms of securities”, said representatives of the NBU banknote paper factory.
Experts of Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise familiarized themselves with modern technologies and the process of making banknote paper. The technology combines Spanish experience in cotton cleaning, high efficiency of a turbo for cotton boiling from Italy, refinement of Swiss milling equipment, quality and reliability of paper-making equipment from Italy, France, English and Finland.
The consecutive cycle of technological alteration of cotton fiber, the main raw material of paper production with the extensive use of materials and chemicals from leading world manufacturers ensures a high level of mechanical strength of banknote and protected paper, its manufacturability and durability.
After completing the excursion, the experts of Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise had the opportunity to talk with the factory specialists, to get answers to questions that will help in the execution of questioned document examination.
