Leading forensic expert of the Substance and Materials and Products Department of Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise Nelia Poplavska paid a working visit to the Hungarian Institute for Forensic Sciences (HIFS).
This visit was organized to exchange experience and familiarize with the practical expert activities of the Department of Physics and Chemistry of the Laboratory of Forensic Physics and Inorganic Analysis of the Hungarian Institute for Forensic Sciences.
As part of the work, identification and diagnostic studies of glass micro particles and soil and mineralogical objects using modern equipment were considered.
During theoretical and practical exercises, the experts worked together to determine the elemental composition using the TORNADO X-ray fluorescence analyzer and determine the refractive indices using the Foster + Freeman forensic equipment.
In addition, the methods of determining the quantitative and qualitative mineral composition of soils were obtained for practical application of the corresponding approaches.
The experts discussed and compared approaches to the structure and design of the findings of Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise and Hungarian Institute for Forensic Sciences.
In general, the work was successful and productive; KFI’s specialist of the Substance and Materials and Products Department of Criminalistics Laboratory will present the results of the training course for the staff.
