Specialists of Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise paid a study visit to the Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police, Poland

As part of the continued expansion of international cooperation, experts from Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine paid a study visit to the Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police, Poland.

The study visit was supported by the TAIEX (Technical Assistance and Information Exchange) with the aim of improving the methodology for conducting technical examination of documents, exchanging experience in the field of forensic research and establishing cooperation as well.

Participants within the framework of the exchange program were experts from the questioned documents examination department: Victoriia Kulykovska, Head of the Department, Olena Pryimak and Serhii Naumenko chief forensic experts.

Within three working days, the Ukrainian side had the opportunity to familiarize with the structure of the Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police, the quality in the forensic laboratory of the department as well as to study in detail the process of conducting examinations in the questioned documents examination department.

The agenda included consideration of the issues of authentication of documents in accordance with the accreditation procedure, methods and samples of expert opinions based on the results of technical examination of documents, comparison of the work of two departments.

“It is pleasant to note the high professional level of the colleagues with whom we managed to work on the basis of the Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police, Poland. To compare approaches to work, to explore the capabilities of the material and technical base,” noted Victoriia Kulykovska, Head of the Questioned Documents Examination Department.

According to Serhii Naumenko, chief forensic expert, particular interest was caused by the joint work on the study of Ukrainian documents in the police criminalistics laboratories in Poland.

Olena Pryimak, chief forensic expert, said that despite geopolitics, thousands of citizens of both countries cross the Polish-Ukrainian border every day, verification of identification documents is carried out accordingly, individual samples fall into the hands of experts, the research practice, problems and threats of document examination are analyzed.

In general, the work passed in a working friendly atmosphere and became a wonderful experience for participants on both sides.
