Representatives of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise took part in the round table “Support to Reforms and Digitalization of the Justice Sector of Ukraine” (EU Project “Pravo-Justice II”)

On July 19, 2023, Nataliia Nestor, Deputy Director of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise, and Oleg Baulin, Head of the Scientific Activity and International Cooperation Department of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise, took part in a round table of the  European Union Project “Support to Reforms and Digitalization of the Justice Sector in Ukraine” (EU Project “Pravo-Justice II”).

The round table was attended by forensic institutions of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, experts who are not employees of state-specialized institutions, and others. In particular, representatives of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine were Oleksandr Banchuk, Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine, Oleksandr Oliinyk, Director of the Directorate of Justice and Criminal Justice of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, Nataliia Tkachenko, Director of the Department of Expert Support of Justice.

During the round table, the issues of legal liability of forensic experts were discussed, the experience of other countries on this issue was analyzed, as well as the best regional and global practices.

A proposal was also put forward to create a single centralized institution for bringing legal responsibility to forensic experts and possible ways to improve legislation in this area. In addition, aspects of the draft Law of Ukraine “On Forensic Expertise” and other pressing issues of today were discussed.
