On June 21, 2023, Mykhailo Drahomanov Ukrainian State University with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine hosted the Scientific Forum “Combating Terrorist Acts in the Urban Environment”, which brought together leading scientists, practitioners, and politicians and public figures in the field of law, ecology, psychology, architecture and health care, etc.
During the forum, its participants presented reports in the following sections:
1. Actual problems of legal support and evaluation of political strategies to combat terrorist acts in the urban environment.
2. Counteraction to terrorist acts in the urban environment by architectural, planning and design means.
3. The impact of terrorist acts on the environment and human health.
4. Psychological approaches and methods of eliminating stress and trauma in victims of the consequences of terrorist acts and ensuring social stability.
The plenary session of the Forum was opened by Anton Herashchenko, an expert on national security, former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, and MP of the VIII convocation, with the topic “Creating a smart video surveillance system using video cameras of individuals to create a safe environment”.
Anna Stromylo, expert of the Cherkasy Branch of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise, spoke at the forum on the topic “Secondary trauma in the families of demobilized people”, where she revealed the problem of understanding the impact of a traumatic event on the psyche and recognizing the intensity of trauma and retraumatizing a person, which helps to provide effective psychological support, reduce the impact of traumatic factors and restore the condition of the victim.
The implementation of the Forum’s decisions will help create a safer and more sustainable urban environment, reduce the risk of terrorist attacks and save the lives and well-being of citizens.
