On the ninth of March, the whole of Ukraine celebrates the anniversary of the birth of the great son of Ukraine, our prophet Taras Shevchenko.
Taras Shevchenko is a national symbol of the Ukrainian people, who awakened the Ukrainian soul and established the spiritual basis of the people for the struggle against enslavement by the Russian empire. In the person of Shevchenko, Ukrainian people seemed to combine their best spiritual forces and chose him as a singer of their historical glory and social failure, their own hopes and aspirations.
It can be safely called a symbol of the Ukrainian nation, whose work is dedicated to the struggle of our people for freedom and equality and against enslavement. The enemy in the times of Taras Shevchenko among Ukrainians was the same with whom even today Ukrainian soldiers courageously fight and defend their native land.
His word sounds with renewed vigour and truth to the present, and his work reflects the pain of the Ukrainian people in the struggle for freedom and dignity.
In September 2022, the Ukrainian military liberated Balaklia in the Kharkiv Oblast. When the Russian poster was removed, there was a portrait of Taras Shevchenko and an excerpt from the poem “The Caucasus” during the entire occupation, in which he condemned the war of the Russian empire and extolled the struggle of the people for freedom:
Fight – you will overcome!
God will help you!
For you the truth, for your glory
And the will is holy!
May the words of Taras Shevchenko always be our motivation and inspiration on the way to a brighter future.
