From November 20 to 24, 2023, Nataliia Nestor, Deputy Director of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise took part in the 23rd Conference of the International Association of Forensic Sciences (IAFS) and the 26th Symposium of the Australian and New Zealand Forensic Science Society (ANZFSS) in Sydney (Australia), where she represented the forensic science of Ukraine in her report on the challenges of forensic science during the war, and also participated in discussions.
The IAFS encompasses scientists and practitioners of various specialties from around the world. Since 1957, the IAFS has held an international conference every three years.
The ANZFSS was established in 1971 and brings together scientists, police officers, forensic scientists, experts and lawyers who are active in the field of forensic science.
The event was attended by over 1500 participants, leading scientists and experts from around the world.
The conference program included seminars, reports, oral and poster sessions. The conference strategically covered critical issues to identify possible solutions to create a stronger and more reliable forensic science in the future, and the event also became a platform for the exchange of data and information, best practices of world-class scientists and experts.
The meeting covered cutting-edge research and innovation to shape the future of global forensics and examination, and featured an equipment exhibition showcasing the latest technologies.
During the visit, Nataliia Nestor also visited the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and the Sydney Judicial Institutions.
Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise continues to actively cooperate with different countries on different continents of the world, aimed at the development of forensic examination in Ukraine and the implementation of the best practices of the world, in order to form a unique successful practical experience in the system of forensic examination of Ukraine.
