On October 13-18, 2023, the 130th anniversary conference of the International Association of Chiefs of Police was held in San Diego (USA). At the invitation of the US government, Nataliia Nestor, Deputy Director of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise, participated as a speaker at the event, with topics related to forensic science, the fight against terrorism, and the role of women leaders in the world.
The event brought together more than 16 thousand security and legal professionals from over 76 countries. Among the speakers were U.S. Attorney General Merrick B. Garland, Deputy Attorney General Lisa O. Monaco, Director Christopher Wray of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Director Steven Dettelbach of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Administrator Ann Milgram of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Director Ronald L. Davis of the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), Director Hugh T. Clements of the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office), and Justin Locke, Director of the Center for Responsive Politics (CRS), as well as sheriffs from all states, police chiefs from different countries, heads of Europol, Interpol, and other dignitaries from 76 countries.
During the visit, Ms. Nestor held a number of meetings with heads of agencies and institutions from around the world. An agreement on partnership was reached with the Director of Europol, Catherine de Bollay: the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise became the only and the first non-police institution in Ukraine to be granted such an opportunity.
Nataliia Nestor emphasized the importance of forensic examination and cooperation and partnership with foreign colleagues, using collective resources and strengths to achieve the goals in the fight against terrorism.
Ms. Nestor thanked the partners and the U.S. government for their unwavering determination in difficult situations and support for Ukraine.
