Meeting of the Working Group on Counteracting Drugs and Organized Crime

Oleksandr Ruvin, Director of Kyiv Forensic Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise and Oleh Posilskyi, Head of the Materials, Substances and Products Research Department of the Laboratory of Criminalistics Research of KFI took part in the meeting of the Working Group on combating illicit drug trafficking, psychotropic substances and organized crime.

The event brought together representatives of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the leaders of the project “EU-Action against Drugs and Organized Crime, enhanced cooperation and capacity building to address drug-related organized crime along the heroin route through capacity development support”.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the evaluation of expert laboratories carried out by the representatives of EU-Action project. It was about the advantages and disadvantages of the work of expert laboratories in Ukraine, the search for ways to solve problem issues and the implementation of the recommendations of European colleagues, which was provided based on the results of the audit. The situation was discussed with the coordination of the activities/work of expert laboratories in Ukraine: reference laboratories, accredited laboratories, legislative base, existing restrictions, etc.

The management of “EU-Action” project presented the model of cooperation and information exchange in the countries of the European Union. The reports of foreign colleagues covered the experience of the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes (ENFSI).

The participants of the meeting discussed the issues of the agenda and agreed on further steps in the implementation of the common goals.
