On July 24, 2023, the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise received from the German government a 3D scanner “FARO Laser Scanner Focus S” and a computer for video processing, which will facilitate the work of forensic experts and the introduction of the latest methods and means of fast, safe, and high-quality recording of Russian war crimes committed on the territory of Ukraine.
The FARO Laser Scanner Focus S is the latest compact, lightweight device from the most forward-thinking laser scanners on the scanner market. It combines all the benefits of the famous FARO Focus 3D laser scanners with state-of-the-art functions for performing laser scanning both indoors and outdoors.
Damien Splitters, deputy director of the Conflict Armament Research (CAR) research organization “Center for the Study of Armed Conflicts, said, “hopes that this scanner will facilitate the work of experts in documenting Russia’s crimes against Ukraine”.
In turn, Deputy Director of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise Nataliia Nestor thanked the German government for the new equipment provided by the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise and noted that “practical developments of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise have proved that 3D scanning allows to efficiently, efficiently and promptly ensure proper recording of russian crimes”. The new FARO equipment has joined the ranks of advanced technologies used in the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise.
