Today, July 28, Ukrainians the Day of Ukrainian Statehood is celebrated for the second time. It is no coincidence that this holiday coincides with the Day of Baptism of Kyivan Rus.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy initiated the holiday of Ukrainian statehood during the solemn events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence and was celebrated for the first-time last year.
July 28 is also the day of remembrance of Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Volodymyr the Great. This coincidence of dates has a deep meaning for Statehood Day, recalling the thousand-year tradition of Ukrainian statehood, whose roots are in Kyivan Rus.
The Day of Ukrainian Statehood is an opportunity for each of us to remember the history of our country, full of struggle for independence, unity, and a happy life. We appreciate what our ancestors fought for and what our defenders are fighting for now. We remember all those who died in this struggle. We are building a future in which we ourselves would like to live.
