On October 14, Ukraine celebrates Defender of Ukraine Day, which is inextricably linked to the development of the Ukrainian army and its military traditions. The annual public holiday was established by the Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 806 of October 14, 2014.
On July 14, 2021, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine renamed the national holiday Defender of Ukraine Day to Defender of Ukraine Day.
Today is a day of pride. Pride for the men and women who protect the freedom and independence of Ukraine. A day of gratitude to the military and civilians, those who are on the front lines and in the rear, doctors and volunteers, as well as their relatives who are waiting and supporting them.
The Ukrainian people and their courage inspired the whole world, and our army became one of the most capable armies in Europe. The Armed Forces of Ukraine proved on the battlefield that we could not be broken! When on February 24, it seemed that the defenders of Ukraine did not stand a chance against the thousands of troops of the russian aggressor; today we liberated and continue to liberate the occupied territories. We are moving forward and not giving the enemy any chance to stay on our land. In addition, we continue to give a worthy rebuff, despite his insidious acts of terrorism, which he carries out on the territory of the free people of independent Ukraine.
During the seven months of the war, our Armed Forces of Ukraine changed history, changed the world and changed themselves. Even when the military of Ukraine did not have the powerful support that the world began to give us, we had indomitable and courageous soldiers who were ready to stop tanks with their bare hands and cover their homeland with themselves. We united and understood that despite all the help and support, no one but us will choose our independence.
Today, we once again honour all those who continue to fight for our freedom and express our sincere gratitude and respect to those who without hesitation laid down their lives for the bright future of Ukraine, whose heroic actions, courage and self-sacrifice become an example for future generations.
We also heartily congratulate everyone on a special day for Ukrainians – the holiday of the Holy Intercession – the only religious holiday that is both national and patriotic. In today’s difficult circumstances of the life of the Ukrainian people, we ask the Most Holy Lady for her Protection over us.
Our faith, truth and victory, as symbols of the Feast of the Intercession, have always helped us to persevere in the fight against enemies and continue to inspire us to victory. We wish all of us a peaceful Ukraine, harmony, and a happy future! Let our state grow stronger and prosper because we are invincible!
Glory to the Defenders of Ukraine!
Glory to Ukraine!
