On this day, Ukrainians commemorate the events of the end of January 1918, one of the important subjects of modern Ukrainian historical memory, the battle near Kruty town.
On January 29, 1918, near the Kruty railway station in the Chernihiv Oblast, volunteers of 300 young men engaged in an unequal battle with a 5,000-strong Bolshevik (Soviet) Army.
After Ukraine gained independence, the feat of the Heroes of Kruty took a worthy place in the pantheon of national glory, became a symbol of patriotism and sacrifice in the struggle for state independence. At the state level, this day has been celebrated since 2003. The annual commemoration of the Heroes of Kruty is enshrined in the Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of May 16, 2013 “On the celebration of the heroism of the heroes of the Kruty battle”.
The battle near Kruty is a glorious page in the history of Ukraine. The staff of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise will always remember the feat of the heroes who gave their lives for the sake of our state!
