On November 29, 2023, the Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute of Special Equipment and Forensic Expertise of the Security Service of Ukraine held an interagency roundtable on “Spreading Disinformation as a Threat to National Security: Finding Effective Means of Counteraction”. The event was held in the format of live communication and online video conference.
The purpose of the roundtable was to develop a concept of interagency tools for countering disinformation and to develop communication between interested government agencies of Ukraine, the media community, scientific and forensic institutions, educational institutions and public organizations.
The event was attended by Anton Polianskyi, Head of the Laboratory for the Organization of Scientific, Methodological Activities, Regulatory Support, International Cooperation and Expert Training of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise, and Yurii Maznychenko, Leading Researcher of the Department of Scientific and Regulatory Methodological Activities of the Laboratory for the Organization of Scientific, Methodological Activities, Regulatory Support, International Cooperation and Expert Training of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise. The event was also attended by experts, scientists, representatives of the security and defense sector of Ukraine, the media and others.
During the roundtable, topical issues were raised regarding the latest techniques and tools for countering destructive information influence, the vulnerability of the Ukrainian information space, the detection of hostile information influence and effective communication of information to the target audience to prevent consequences, the possibilities of linguistic and psychological expertise in countering fake news, etc. The participants also discussed the interaction of state and civilian institutions and international experience in countering hybrid threats.
