KFI experts became members of the ENFSI Digital Imaging Working Group (DIWG) in Prague (Czech Republic)

From October 16 to 19, 2023, the experts of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise took part in the annual Digital Imaging Working Group (DIWG) of the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes (ENFSI), which was held in Prague, Czech Republic.

The working group was held in the format of lectures with presentations. Yevhen Tymko, Head of the Phonoscopic, Computer and Telecommunications Research Department of the Criminalistics Laboratory, and Ruslan Demianenko, Deputy Head of the Phonoscopic, Computer and Telecommunications Research Department of the Criminalistics Laboratory, delivered a report on “Photographic Research in the Investigation of War Crimes”.

Other topics discussed at the event included: detecting AI image synthesis, crime scene investigation using virtual reality, auxiliary characteristics in car identification, visual identification of faces based on tattoo image comparison, validation of face comparison algorithms, methods of capturing postmortem images for face recognition systems, machine learning in police investigations, deep learning models for image processing and analysis in forensics, reconstruction of a mobile password from low-quality

The participants of the Working Group from the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise exchanged knowledge and skills with representatives of forensic institutions and other government agencies from Germany, the Czech Republic, Great Britain, Slovakia, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Holland, Norway and Finland. After all, the topics discussed are very relevant in times of Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine.
