Technical examination of documents is one of the areas of forensic types of expertise, carried out by experts in many countries of the world. The variety of objects of technical and forensic research of documents predetermine the complexity and wide range of tasks facing forensic experts.
Specialists of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise conduct research on foreign and domestic cash banknotes, forms of strict reporting documents, identity documents, travel documents and other various objects. Currently, there is a tendency to increase the number of studies of biometric documents.
Biometric identification documents containing an electronic medium, it is a part of Ukraine’s European integration and a step towards the modern technological world. It is believed that such documents are most protected from fakes and exclude the possibility of using them by anyone other than the owner. However, even in this area quite often controversial issues arise that can only be resolved by consolidating the efforts of the global expert community.
In this regard, experts from the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise maintain communication and collaborate with foreign experts, in particular, specialists from the United States of America. Therefore, as part of the exchange of information, Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise received from American colleagues the originals of international guidelines for checking document identifiers.
Received publications are the most important and most famous source of information for identifying fake identity documents. Employees of specialized expert agencies of the United Nations, the US Department of State, border and police departments, etc. have used the guidelines.
