From October 19 to October 21, 2022, Ihor Chaliuk, Head of the Department for the Quality and Cost of Road Construction Research of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise and Tetiana Pyrozhnikova, Leading Forensic Expert of the Department of Research of Financial and Credit Operations and Economic Activity of Enterprises of the Economics Research Laboratory of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise took part in training seminar “Accreditation Model for Crime Scene Investigation” in Warsaw (Poland).
ENFSI (European Network of Forensic Expert Institutions) and AFORE Project “Accreditation of Forensic Laboratories in Europe” aims to support forensic laboratories within the framework of accreditation work or expand the scope of their accreditation.
Part of the AFORE’s Project was to conduct a training seminar “Accreditation Model for Crime Scene Investigation”. This work package aims to create a European model for accreditation of crime scene inspection processes in accordance with ISO/IEC 17020 requirements and promote awareness of crime scene inspection processes in EA (European Co-operation for Accreditation).
The primary purpose of the seminar was to provide a better understanding of the entire trial, including crime scene research and laboratory activities (e.g., logistics, trace search, different types of traces), the different roles of personnel in crime scene investigation (quality system, crime scene expert, forensic expert), principles and importance of crime scene investigation (e.g., documenting the scene, identifying the crime, etc.) The seminar speakers were representatives of Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, Norway, and Sweden.
Accreditation is an essential tool for minimizing errors and ensuring reliability, including in forensic science.
