Experts of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise took part in the Phonexia webinar “Improving Forensic Voice Comparison with Speech Biometrics”

On September 14, 2022, Yevhen Tymko,  Head of the Phonoscopic and Computer Research Department of the Laboratory of Forensics Research of the  Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise, Anait Hovannisian, Deputy Head of the Phonoscopic and Computer Research Department of the Laboratory of Forensics Research of the  Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise and Vladyslav Smyrnov, Senior Forensic Expert of the  Phonoscopic and Computer Research Department of the   Laboratory of Forensics Research of the  Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise took part in the Phonexia’ webinar “Improving Forensic Voice Comparison Using Speech Biometrics”.

The webinar was organized by the company Phonexia, which presents software for speech recognition and provides highly accurate biometric voice data. Guided by EU legislation, the company’s innovative solutions are used in more than 60 countries around the world.

Speakers of the webinar were Stefan Gfrehrer, a forensic expert in voice comparison research, the former head of the Speaker Identification and Audio Analysis Department at the German Bundeskriminalamt, and Peter French, co-founder of the Center for Forensic Phonetics and Acoustics of the University of Zurich. During the webinar, the speakers tried to highlight the pros and cons of using automatic speaker identification for forensic voice comparison, and whether speech biometrics can replace traditional auditory and acoustic structures. The webinar also included a 25-minute question-and-answer session for further discussion of the topic raised.
