Iryna Bilous, the Head of the Handwriting Research Department of Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise became a participant in an inter-departmental round table on the theme: “The role of whistleblowers in preventing and countering corruption”. The event was held at the National Academy of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine with the assistance of the European Union Advisory Mission in Ukraine.
The event was held to discuss problematic issues related to the professional activities of whistleblowers and the development of approaches to increase the activity and efficiency of the institute of whistleblowers in Ukraine.
The topic of today has gathered a wide range of specialists from various government institutions and scientific institutions whose activities are related to fight against corruption.
Representatives of expert institutions, the Advisory Mission of the European Union, the relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers, the General Prosecutor’s Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Police, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, the National Bureau of Investigation, etc also shared views on the activities of the institution of accusers in Ukraine and the results achieved in this area.
Scientific reports and discussions related to the coverage of the international experience of the functioning of the institute of accusers, analysis of Ukrainian legislation, organization of communication with whistleblowers and regulatory support for the protection of whistleblowers, etc.
So, the speakers presented the audience the following topics:
- features of the activities of whistleblowers in preventing and countering corruption;
- international experience in the protection of whistleblowers;
- institute of whistleblowers in the United States of America;
- problems of the legal status of whistleblowers in Ukraine;
- aspects of conflict prevention in public authorities;
- aspects of public participation in the prevention of corruption;
- the mechanism of formation in society of intolerance to manifestations of corruption, etc.
The round table was a contribution to increase the activity and consciousness of people, willingness to cooperate with law enforcement agencies. Such measures provide a gradual increase in the level of confidence in the activities of law enforcement agencies, effective interaction of society, experts and all law enforcement agencies, so that together, in cooperation, provide the conditions for a decent life activity of every citizen of Ukraine.
