Drugs Working Group Annual Meeting- ENFSI

Larysa Oliinyk, a research associate, Department of Materials, Substances and Products Research of Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise has become the participant of the 24th Drugs Working Group Annual Meeting Lisbon, Portugal of the European Network of Forensic Science Institutions (ENFSI).

During three working days, experts from various European countries worked on the basis of the Scientific Police Laboratory in Lisbon.

The general work began with an introductory speech by the representative from Denmark, the Chairman of the Expert Working Group, Dr.Irene Breum Müller, the next meetings of the steering committee and subcommittees.

The next stage of the first working day was the presentations of the meeting participants on the results of the work regarding the study of narcotic substances in their countries. So, their reports were presented by experts from Portugal, the Netherlands, Poland, Georgia and Sweden.

Further work and agenda included the consideration of more than thirty narrow-profile reports on the study of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors. In addition, there was a separate discussion about the study of equipment of illegal laboratories producing drugs.

The control over drug trafficking, their research, counteraction to illicit operations with narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors are part of security policy. Transnational drug trafficking and other forms of organized crime are today the key threats to the national security of individual countries, regional and general international security.

Objectively, under such conditions, there is a common interest of both Ukraine and the European Union in cooperation in the sphere of combating transnational drug trafficking, in accordance with the policy in this field. The use of this interest, the integration of Ukraine into a pan-European drug control system, will not only help to reduce the severity of the problem, but also create new opportunities for implementing the policy of European integration in various spheres of political and public life.
