In 2023, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Defenders of Ukraine on October 1 for the first time. This holiday has been celebrated in Ukraine at the state level since 2014 to honor the courage and heroism of the defenders of Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity, military traditions and victories of the Ukrainian people, and to further strengthen the patriotic spirit in society.
War shapes and hardens the Ukrainian nation. Our heroism inspires respect and changes the world. We are fighting for freedom and independence, national dignity. We sincerely congratulate you on the Day of the Defender of Ukraine, a holiday that has incorporated rich and glorious military traditions, and embodies the courage and heroism of the defenders and liberators of our native land at all stages of its history.
With their heroism, courage and selflessness, today’s defenders have won the highest level of trust among Ukrainians.
Today is also the feast of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. From time immemorial, the Holy Mother of God has been the protector of the defenders. The tradition is very old and dates back to the times of Kyivan Rus.
The Intercession also protects the defenders of our time. Together with all Ukrainians, we ask the Holy Virgin to grant peace to Ukraine and protect its borders from enemies.
