On 23–26 September 2025, the city of Iași (Romania) hosted the Second International Frontlines Conference on fraud in travel documents and documents of trafficked stolen vehicles.
The Criminalistics Laboratory of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise (KSRIFE) was represented by expert Serhii Naumenko. In his presentation, “Ukrainian documents of different model years and manufacturers: indicators of authenticity and forgery,” he traced the evolution of five generations of Ukrainian driver’s licenses and vehicle registration certificates. He described the documents’ security features, showed examples of counterfeits, and offered practical recommendations to law enforcement on verification.
The talk drew keen interest, as hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians now use national documents abroad, making their authenticity an issue of pressing concerns.
The session also covered modern tools: using the EUROCARSIS database to search for stolen cars, methods for identifying vehicles with altered number identifiers, and the latest security elements on driver’s licenses from various countries.
Thanks to the professional contacts established during the conference, KSRIFE will gain new opportunities to enhance its methodological base and strengthen international cooperation.
