The event was attended by Yurii Koval, head of the Ternopil branch of the KSRIFE , and Liliia Luchka, a forensic expert.

The seminar participants discussed issues related to violations of environmental protection legislation.

The following issues were considered:

• unauthorized use of subsoil resources;

• violations of legislation on the protection and rational use of water resources;

• excessive emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere;

• littering and pollution of land resources;

• illegal extraction (collection) or destruction of valuable aquatic biological resources;

• illegal logging, etc.

During the seminar, issues arising during the examination of criminal proceedings were discussed, one of the issues raised for consideration being the determination of the amount of damage caused by illegal logging.

In particular, cases were discussed where the size of stumps was calculated by converting diameters into cross-sectional area, and the need to focus efforts in the legal, scientific, and practical spheres to develop and implement a unified mechanism for calculating damages for use in the judicial and criminal process was emphasized.

Special attention was paid to the consideration of the specifics of significant damage caused by illegal fishing.

In addition, attention was focused on the issue of preparing resolutions on the appointment of engineering and environmental expert examinations and the correct formulation of issues to be resolved.

It was emphasized that the questions should be specific and directly related to the circumstances of the events under pre-trial investigation. Typical mistakes made when drafting these procedural documents were also analyzed.

The conclusions and recommendations of the seminar should form the basis for further effective cooperation.
