On October 20, 2022, a meeting of the section on forensic examination of materials, substances and products of the Scientific Advisory and Methodological Council on Forensic Science at the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine was held by video conference was held by videoconference.
From the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the following participants took part in the work of the section:
• Nataliia Nestor, Deputy Director of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise;
• Oleh Posilskyi, Head the of Materials, Substances, and Products Research Department of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise (Head of the Section);
• Larysa Oliinyk, Senior Forensic Expert, Materials, Substances, and Products Research Department of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise;
• Liudmila Kovalchuk, Leading Forensic Expert of Materials, Substances, and Products Research Department of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise.
During the meeting of the section, the progress of the research was discussed in accordance with the Thematic plan of research works of research institutions of forensic examinations of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine for the current year. There was also a discussion of the results of testing and implementation of research in accordance with the plans for testing and implementation for 2022; discussed the technical tasks for the research planned for inclusion in the thematic plan for 2023; reviewed the oriented list of issues to be resolved, which are contained in the Scientific and Methodological Recommendations, in order to identify issues that go beyond the expert’s special knowledge, legal issues, and assess the legality of the relevant procedures.
In addition, the members of the section considered the issues of reviewing training programs (internships), questions about the relevance of the recommended scientific, technical and reference literature, issues included in the Scientific and methodological recommendations on the preparation and appointment of forensic examinations and expert research, approved by the order of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine and other topical problems in conducting forensic examinations of materials of substances and products.
The work of the section was productive, and all issues were considered in full.
