Representatives of the Division of Identification and Forensic Science of the National Police and representatives of the Embassy of the State of Israel paid a working visit to Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
The purpose of the meeting was the presentation of the activities of the Criminalistics Laboratory of KFI, the establishment of cooperation between institutions, the discussion of opportunities for the exchange of experience of specialists and the implementation of joint research.
Within the framework of familiarization with the activities of the Criminalistics Laboratory of KFI, foreign colleagues had the opportunity to visit and communicate with experts from the Department of Technical Research of Documents, the Department of Trasology, Ballistic and Weapon Research and the Department of Materials, Substances and Products Research.
The Criminalistics Laboratory of KFI is one of the largest structural divisions of the institution. The number of forensic examinations performed by experts in this area increases significantly every year, most of them are carried out based on materials of criminal proceedings and cases of administrative offenses.
Particularly relevant issues for discussion with representatives of the Laboratory of Questioned Documents of the Division of Identification and Forensic Science of Israel Police were the following: identifying hidden details and evidence of forged documents; research of documents made on thermal paper in order to establish texts on the example of cash checks; examination of valid documents on a certain example.
Experts agreed that in the context of the transformation of crime, the reform of the criminal justice authorities, the constant updating of the criminal procedure, the issues of consolidating the international efforts of theorists and practitioners to counter crime in order to ensure effective tools are relevant. A significant role in this process is played by the communication of specialists from different countries, the ability of criminalistics in a broad general way, to respond to all the challenges, correctly and in a timely manner realize the tasks and needs of the practice and suggest ways to solve its problems.
The final stage of the meeting was the visit to the museum of the Kyiv Research Scientific Institute of Forensic Expertise.
