On March 12, 2020 Oleksandr Ruvin, Director of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine and Serhii Lutsenko, the Deputy Head of the Trasology, Ballistics, Explosive and Weapon Research Department of the Criminalistics Laboratory of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise took part in a scientific and practical seminar on the theme: “Problematic issues of mine action activities and counteraction to explosive threats”.
The event was held at the National Defence University of Ukraine with the participation of representatives of the Armed Forces of Canada and the United States Special Operations Forces, as well as domestic specialists of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the National Guard of Ukraine.
The organizers noted that the event is held in a difficult situation in the world, exacerbating the risks of a heterogeneous nature. The problem of mining danger is especially relevant to Ukraine because of the events that are still taking place in the east of Ukraine. Under such conditions, organizational and technical measures on the part of the military command and control bodies of Ukraine in the field of mine action are necessary and urgent.
The aim of the seminar was:
- Discussion of problematic issues of mine action in Ukraine, mine safety of troops (forces) and other military units and law enforcement agencies.
- Research the experience of the counter-control struggle of the NATO partner countries, in particular Canada.
- Analysis of the experience of law enforcement agencies in the disclosure of crimes related to explosions and expert support for their research.
Oleksandr Ruvin, Director of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise, in turn, presented information materials on the Institute’s activities, and presented in detail about new types of research carried out comprehensively in the framework of vibro-technical, ballistic, military and weapons research examinations.
At the end of the event, opportunities for future cooperation were discussed as well. Foreign colleagues and participants of the seminar accepted the invitation of Oleksandr Ruvin, Director of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise to visit the Institute and be acquainted in more detail with the work of the Trasology, Ballistics, Explosive and Weapon Research Department of the Criminalistics Laboratory.
